Rescuers Arrive At A Shelter In Time To Save A Dog That Was Being Euthanized

At a Philadelphia shelter, Tiny, a big-eared dog, was on the verge of being put to death. But Tiny was given a second opportunity to live and was able to find a permanent home due to a rescue organization. The dog was at the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT), one of the many shelters that are required to limit the amount of time that animals can stay in their care. In an effort to save the animals, ACCT emails local rescue organizations with pictures of animals in danger.

Tiny first caught Candace Scheirer’s attention in one of these emails. Noah’s Ark Rescue Project and Sanctuary’s president is Candace (NARPS). She fell in love with him the instant she saw her red hair and her deep eyes, much like Tiny’s future adopters did.

Candace emailed ACCT to request to see Tiny, knowing that she was already going to be put to sleep in a few days.

Candace stated to The Dodo:

“I received a call from the ACCT rescue team informing me that Tiny was still present but struggling. I said, “Okay, I’m trying to develop an exit strategy for him.” I’m working on it because I adore him.”

However, the lines were mysteriously crossed. Tiny learned the heartbreaking news that he was either already dead or would soon be the day a NARPS volunteer visited at ACCT to evaluate him.

Candace contacted the ACCT as soon as she received the shocking call from her volunteer. Tiny had already received a potent sedative injection to get him ready for euthanasia, but thankfully, the second injection that ends life had not been administered.
