They Abandoned Their 9-Year-Old Dog To Take Home A Younger Dog

Cookie, a 9-year-old cocker spaniel, presumably only begged for love and care from her family and had no idea that she would be left alone. However, after being reported missing on December 30, Cookie and a 1-year-old Labrador retriever made their way to the San Bernardino City Shelter in California.

According to Lynn Hamilton of OC Small Paws So UT, one of the volunteers who assisted with Cookie’s care, when her family went to pick them up, they only took the Labrador because he was the youngest dog and left Cookie behind because they claimed they couldn’t handle her medical demands any longer.

Staff at the shelter reported that Cookie was sobbing and calling out for her loved ones as the family drove away.

Before caregivers discovered an advertisement for her rescue and rushed to locate her a foster home, Cookie was abandoned and alone.

Since senior dogs are frequently not adopted, if Cookie hadn’t been saved, she would have most likely been put to death. She was fortunately granted another opportunity at life.

She was cleaned up and allowed to play till her heart was content before being sent to a foster home.

She still had a tough battle in front of her, though. She had surgery, a trip to the vet, and was eventually diagnosed with over 12 malignant tumors. In the months that followed, she underwent a number of procedures to remove her tumors.

“We have decided as a group not to place her for adoption. She will be in the rescue center’s care for the remainder of her life as part of a permanent foster care program.

In a matter of weeks, Cookie evolved from being a dejected and abandoned dog to being cared for by a group of people who adore her.
