Inmates Spent The 4th Of July Comforting Dogs Scared By Fireworks At The Shelter

While many Americans like celebrating the Fourth of July with vibrant fireworks displays, our four-legged friends may find the noises upsetting.

Inmates at the Florida’s Brevard County Jail spent their holidays soothing the shelter’s anxious pets as a result, Sheriff Wayne Ivey wrote in a Facebook post.

Ivey started his speech by thanking the community members who offered their time on July 4 to console the dogs at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Animal Care Center.

He stating that during festivities, dogs frequently “become nervous and terrified”.

“While we greatly appreciate the offer of help and sincerely love that our community is working with us to help our homeless pets, our agency has designed a new program that will not only help our dogs but also help inmates incarcerated at the Brevard County Jail find purpose in their lives,” the statement reads.

The sheriff stated that on July 4th, offenders would “read to them, play with them, and even give them goodies” to console the dogs.

According to FOX 35, the fact that convicts pamper the dogs at the shelter, which takes in animals from traumatic backgrounds, helps the animals reestablish contact with people.

“It helps them be ready to be rehabilitated and assimilated when they find their ultimate family,” the author says.

On July 4, 15 prisoners were sent from the jail to the refuge.
