Dog Refuses To Leave The Side Of Man Who Saved Him From Flood

Last October, severe rain and floods over the East Coast forced over a thousand people to abandon their homes. In the midst of all the chaos and uncertainty, one furry flood victim not only made it out alive, but he also gained a new companion.

In the hard-hit town of Conway, South Carolina, Alex Scroggins was helping his mother and sister salvage what they could from their homes when he noticed a dog whimpering and whining on a neighbor’s porch. He and a few friends who were aiding in the endeavor went on their journey in his tiny boat, assuming the animal’s owner was close. Scroggins noted the dog was still there and becoming more anxious after numerous excursions, as the floodwaters continued to rise.

He began to wonder if, after all, there was someone who could assist him.

“I interviewed other neighbors, and they stated the owner had left the dog there a few days before,” Scroggins said to The Dodo.

Scroggins jumped in to aid when he realized the abandoned puppy was going to die unless someone acted.

“When I approached him, he was wary at first since his owner had abandoned him. He calmed down once I put my hand out and gave him time to become acclimated to me. We snatched him up and escorted him to the boat, where he was secure “he stated “By the time I discovered him, he had practically run out of dry places to stand. That puppy was about to be thrown out. It was only a matter of time before we discovered him floating in the river, dead.”

Scroggins was able to get the dog to safety, following which he attempted to locate a no-kill shelter that would accept him.

“All the shelters around here were fully packed,” Scroggins explained, “so I decided to bring him home with me for the night.” “I fed him and washed him up. He was overjoyed to be in such good hands.”

After speaking with some other neighbors the next day, Scroggins discovered that the person who had abandoned Lucky seemed uninterested in reuniting with him. Furthermore, this was not the first time that one of the owner’s animals had to be rescued from mistreatment.
