In Her Backyard, A Woman Takes Stunning Photos Of Hummingbirds

As they fly from blossom to flower, Nature’s hardest-working tiny hummingbirds live in a fast-paced world. They come in a dizzying flash and go just as quickly – but underneath the blur we perceive of these animals is magnificent beauty that is frequently overlooked.

Thankfully, one photographer has managed to capture everything in spectacular detail.

Tracy Johnson is no stranger to landscape and night photography, but she discovered her true passion in her own backyard. Her California home’s garden had long been a favorite dining location for local hummingbirds, so she decided to photograph them one day.

Unsurprisingly, the first images were all blurry, but she eventually got one that wasn’t.

“I was astounded when I zoomed in. I had no idea their feathers came in such a variety of hues “She told The Dodo about it. “I was completely taken aback. They resemble little works of art.”

Since then, Johnson has made it her aim to snap miniature photos of each passing hummingbird, catching their distinct coloration on film.

“Each bird is distinct from the one before it. If you concentrate and pay attention, you can identify the difference between them “Around 20 hummingbirds are regular visitors, according to Johnson. “I’ve spent a lot of time with them. They’re all individuals with distinct characteristics.”

The best part is that Johnson’s photography depicts creatures who are completely free to come and go, however getting to the correct spot to photograph them takes a lot of patience.

“The birds must feel at ease around you. I essentially sit beside their favorite flowers and wait for them to arrive, which can take up to 30 minutes “she stated “After that, I’d have a shot, and they’d depart for another 30 minutes. They don’t even know who I am.”
