A Stray Pit Bull Puppy Stuck On A Roof Is Overjoyed To See His Saviors

Last month, when the Arizona Humane Society (AHS) received a call about a pit bull puppy stuck on a roof in Phoenix, rescuers expected to find a scared dog cowering on the roof, desperate to get down — instead, they discovered the most excited, playful puppy they’d ever met, having an absolute blast on a random roof.

Someone in the area had seen the puppy, subsequently named Rufio, roaming about on the roof and called the Arizona Humane Society’s Emergency Animal Medical Technicians (EAMTs). Rufio looked to be a stray dog, and it’s unclear how he got onto the roof in the first place.

“No one knows how Rufio found up on the roof. “Our best assumption is that he was either chasing something up there and couldn’t get down, or he was auditioning for this year’s Santa Paws,” AHS public relations specialist Kelsey Dickerson told The Dodo. “However he squeezed his way up there, we’re pleased the Good Samaritan called AHS’ rescuers.”

Jenna Moffitt and Andy Gallo, EAMTs, responded to the call and went to Rufio’s location…

“Pets are always happy to meet our rescue crew,” Dickerson added, “but none more so than Rufio.”

Rufio’s excitement rose even more when he learned Gallo was joining him on the roof, and he was certain Gallo was coming up so they could have a big ol’ party on the roof together. Everyone’s hurry in attempting to get him off the roof perplexed him – he was having the time of his life up there!

“When Rufio spotted EAMT Andy Gallo up on the roof, he was totally happy,” Dickerson recalled. “He rushed over to Andy and gave him a huge embrace while wagging his tail at around 100 kilometers per hour!” The adorable puppy was having a great time and didn’t appear to understand he was in danger.”

Gallo eventually managed to bring Rufio to the edge of the roof after hugs, belly rubs, and more joy than either rescuer had ever seen in their life…

Gallo then climbed down from the roof, and Rufio was overjoyed to see him again.

Gallo told The Dodo, “He was very delighted.” “He wouldn’t let go of my face!”

Rufio was taken to the AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital after his rescue to be examined up to make sure he hadn’t hurt himself during his roof party. Rufio, on the other hand, appeared to be in good spirits and was just as happy to see everyone at the hospital as he was to meet his rescuers.

Dickerson described Rufio as a “big love bug with a lot of enthusiasm.” “He adores everyone and will welcome you with his trademark tail wags, body wiggles, and lots of kisses within seconds of meeting you.”

Rufio had everyone at AHS smitten, so it came as no surprise when he was adopted barely a week after being in their care. The active, lovable dog now has the ideal permanent home – and will hopefully spend more time inside than on top of it.
