In A Citywide Effort, A Deaf Senior Dog Who Had Been Missing For Days Was Rescued From A Texas Storm Drain

Thanks to her Arlington, Texas, neighborhood, Zoey has returned home safely.

The 15-year-old deaf dog went missing on Thursday, according to WFAA. The senior canine was located after a little more than two days. Unfortunately, Zoey was discovered in a precarious situation.

The cat became caught deep within a storm sewer during her time away from home. Zoey’s owners were unclear how the dog got into the tight space and how to get her out, so they phoned for assistance.

Arlington police officers, firemen, paramedics, and city rescue teams all rushed to the call to save Zoey, according to police officer Kristi Weil of WFAA.
“Zoey, a 15-year-old, had been missing for several days. The AFD’s Technical Rescue Team was dispatched to determine the best method for removing the dog. Zoey was almost 400 feet from the nearest storm drain opening. To get to the pipe, crews had to remove concrete “ The Arlington Fire Department posted a Facebook update on the rescue.

After hours of effort, “Zoey was extracted at 10:42 PM and transported to an Animal Medical Center,” according to the post.

“All of those engaged in Zoey’s rescue put forth a lot of work, and we appreciate it. Special thanks to Arlington Police Department, City of Arlington, TX – City Hall Public Works, City of Arlington, TX – Animal Services, and American Medical Response “ AFD was added.

Community people who were not directly engaged in Zoey’s rescue assisted by providing pizza and drink to the rescuers.

“Everyone has been really accommodating. When Zoey was saved, there were joyous cheers and tears “WFAA spoke with Weil. “And I enjoy seeing the community come out to support a great outcome. And for a family to get their much-loved pet back at the end of the day.”
